Maine swimmers shine at Maryland

Two former Maine age-group competition swimmers, Jennifer Roberts of Sanford and Laura Flewelling of Scarborough, are among the fastest swimmers for the University of Maryland Terps this season.

Roberts, a sophomore, has recorded a 1:59.6 200 individual medley, the fastest of the season for the Terps. Roberts also has sped to a 1:58.1 200 butterfly.

Flewelling, a frosh at College Park, has the second fastest 100 breaststroke this season for the Terps at 1:02.69 and the second fastest 200 breaststroke, 2:13.

Earlier this fall it was announced that swimming and diving would be two of several sports eliminated at the University of Maryland. College officials offered the possibility of retaining swimming and diving if the programs are endowed by an outside party at the same level established by the college.
